First of its kind collaboration of leading NJ medical associations to focus on pressing healthcare issues

NEW PROVIDENCE – February 15, 2017 -- Ashish D. Parikh, MD, Summit Health Management (SHM) Vice President and Senior Medical Director of Quality and Utilization Management, has been selected by the Medical Society of New Jersey (MSNJ) to be a member of the New Jersey Healthcare Executive Leadership Academy.

The New Jersey Healthcare Executive Leadership Academy is a joint initiative to build stronger leadership among physicians and executives from hospitals, post-acute providers and health plans. The first program of its kind in the nation to bring together all the key stakeholders was developed by three leading state medical associations -- Medical Society of New Jersey (MSNJ), the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA), and the New Jersey Association of Health Plans (NJAHP). These professional organizations, representing the three pillars of healthcare in New Jersey, believe that developing cross disciplinary, collaborative leadership within each sector will resolve the most pressing healthcare issues in the state. The program will invest in the individual development of those leading healthcare organizations in New Jersey.

“This collaborative, innovative partnership will provide the opportunity to understand how each of our perspectives – that of a health plan, a hospital, and a physician group -- are applied to solving problems in healthcare delivery,” said Dr. Parikh.   “Our first challenge as team will be to address the differences in end-of-life care and end-of-life care spending in New Jersey, as compared to other states and the nation as a whole. Together, we will review the qualitative and quantitative variations and seek a solution that will benefit our state in the future.”

Prior to joining SHM, Dr. Parikh was the Senior Health and Quality Advisor at IBM, located in Armonk, New York. He also served on the program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.

Dr. Parikh is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
